so i went to the dentist this week
new hygienist

my normal one knows
that i don't floss

gives me the riot act
scrapes my teeth like a mad woman

like i am neglecting HER teeth

so dentist comes in
and asks if i've been flossing
camille answers for me
"no, she hasn't"

dude assesses my teeth
says they are very clean
and that i brush good

then says i should floss

i say to him
if they start making floss
that tastes like red wine

well let's just say
today
i managed to save
the entire

solar system

like anything

and yes also with running
you have good runs
and you have bad runs

tonight was a bad run

and i know that
because i was considerably slower
than the same distance ran
only months ago
in March

this race hurt
and it didn't give me the sense
of accomplishment when i finished
that i'm used to

and where the fuk were you endorphins???

i did however
learn a few lessons
about racing at night
and a few reminders
about racing period

for example
not cool to think
you're too cool
to taper
and go out and do regularly scheduled
hill training
just two days prior

and strength training, rollerblading and long dog walking
day before
and mad cycling around town
day of

the legs are not magical wands
that can recover with a whimsical swoop

too bad



but
the most amazing part
of the experience
was seeing my budds that came to watch me
en route

and let me snag
some of their pizza
and wine
at the 25'ish km point

don't think i've ever
been so excited
to run a race
than i am to run the one
tonight

the course will be beautiful

but the distance
is will be tough
30km (or almost 3 hours)

as i have only been training
on my own this summer
no group running

and i will have no pacer

just my own tenacity
and fortitude

to beat my current PB time
